CieSign is the app developed by the Italian State Printing Office and Mint for advanced electronic signature (AES) using the Electronic Identity Card (EIC) and devices equipped with NFC interface.

Article 61 of the DPCM of February 22, 2013, allows the use of the EIC as a tool for advanced electronic signature for public administration services and activities.

Furthermore, the EIC, widely used as a strong identification method for authentication to public administration services, fully meets the minimum requirements set for AES and can also be used as an electronic signature tool between private individuals within legal limits.

Upon initial launch of the app, you will register your EIC by entering the PIN and placing the card near your device in use.

From that moment on, a guided procedure will allow you to easily sign your electronic documents whenever you want:

  • Select the document and the type of signature to be affixed
  • Enter the last 4 digits of the PIN (or activate the biometric recognition mode if selected)
  • Approach the EIC to your device
  • Share the signed document via email, messaging app, cloud service

You can also add your graphical signature and verify the signature on the documents.

Remember: the first part of the PIN is provided by the Municipality when requesting the EIC, and the second part is delivered with the card.
